Electrical Systems
The electrical supplies at Makespace are very confusing, there are at lest five distribution broads supplying the circuits in Makespace. The sockets in Makespace are not protected by RCDs, there are plans to address this in the near future.
Over the 2012 Christmas break, a quick survey was done and the following was found.
Class room
the class room, circuits are feed from a distribution broad located outside of Makespace and was not checked.
Corridor
the corridor, circuits are feed from a distribution broad located outside of Makespace and was not checked.
Main Workshop
The main workshop circuits are fed from the two distribution broads located in the workshop shop. The left hand broad supplies power for the lighting and sockets in the main workshop(lighting only), kitchen, quiet room, store room and the right hand distribution broad. The sockets in the main workshop are fed from the right hand distribution broad. The right hand distribution broad circuits are protected via a electrical contactor, when any of the red emergency stop buttons in the workshop are operated, the supply to the right hand broad is isolated, and therefore any circuits supplied from it will also be isolated.
Secure Workshop
The secure workshop lighting is feed from a distribution broad located outside of Makespace and was not checked.
The sockets in the Secure workshop are fed from the distribution broad located in the secure workshop. The distribution broad is protected via a electrical contactor, when any of the red emergency stop buttons in the secure workshop are operated, the supply to the distribution broad is isolated, and therefore any circuits supplied from it will also be isolated. The sockets in the secure workshop are spilt into three circuits. A 32A ring main, 16A circuit control with a switched spur and a 10A high level socket.
Office
The office lighting and sockets are fed from it's own distribution broad. This distribution broad is over 20 years old, since the office space is not going to be used for making, I don't see the need for the sockets to be RCD protected as long as the equipment used within the office is only IT equipment.
Kitchen
The kitchen lighting and power is fed from the Main Workshop left hand distribution broad.
Quiet Room
The Quiet room lighting and power is fed from the Main Workshop left hand distribution broad. The low level and high level sockets are fed from different circuits.
Store Room
The Store room is fed from the Main Workshop left hand distribution broad.
Faults
If you find a fault with any part of the electrical system at Makespace, stop using it, label it as faulty and please log it here, and inform Brian Corteil, or one of the directors or a trusted member.
