Safety
-No lose hair or clothing that might be caught in the machine!
-Security glasses have to be worn all the time, including people watching...
-Gear box access properly close
-wood blank relatively well balance (Unbalanced workpieces can shake loose and fly in any direction)
-always start with a low speed, if the wood piece is unbalanced, higher speed increase the risk of large vibrations.
-always having the tool resting on the tools rest
-when changing the position of the tool rest always stop the lathe!
Setting up the wood blank
- mark the centre of the end face the best you can.
- if using center, make sure the live one is properly set in the wood, it is recommended to use a face plate with screws or the chuck screw.
- make sure all the screw are fasten properly.
Roughing the blank
-change the position of the tool rest to have a confortable position, one hand pressing the tool against the tool rest.
-make sure you use the larger tool (rougher) and set up a small speed. When you have a rough cylinder, you can increase the speed.
-bring the tool in contact with the wood piece and translate the tools from on end to the other one.

-use the other tool to turn the shape you want!
