We've got some guidelines on how we manage donations:

  • don't dump stuff here
  • if it's on the list of stuff we want - that's great (make sure once you've donated that it gets crossed off the list!)
  • if it's big / complex / costly then talk to committee about it (for now, email the Google Group)
  • if it's a loan be prepared to take it back (if requested to) or lose it
  • thank you!
  • we don't buy stuff from individuals - if you have something to sell, put it on ebay and we might buy it (guarantees that we pay market rate, but also means we get the best kit for Makespace)

(If you are wondering why we don't just accept anything, it's because:

  • some items would cost us money to dispose of (if large / heavy / hazardous materials)
  • we haven't got infinite storage space
  • some items, even if we can use them, will cost us money in insurance or other costs, so the donation might mean we end up with a liability

And if you loan something, be prepared that it might be stolen, broken, or damaged in some way, and that if we decide it's too costly in money/space/time to keep, be prepared to take it back, so we don't have to pay for disposal.)
