Magnetic detector still in operation, but with additional cutouts in series. (ie Magnetic open OR left side open OR right side open).

Risk assessment: increase in lid safety because it's in series with existing system. Tested that each detector individually will cut out the laser. Low electrical risk (low voltage and not near fingers). Mechanical components designed to not be sharp / protruding overly. This additional system can be bypassed by determined operators and the reliability of the exiting cutout system is unknown although presumed to be reliable. We feel that the microswitches are an additional safety layer and no existing safety system is compromised. We do not believe there is any additional "perceived safety" causing more risky user behaviour. The microswitches are operated by plastic affixed to the lid. The position/depth of these may need to be adjusted with time.
