Summary

The aim of this process is to ensure that all new members are introduced in an appropriate way and provided with sufficient information to take and active part in our community, gain the maximum benefit from it and use the equipment and space safely.

Process

The overall process for the induction of new members is as follows:

  • Initial visit
    • Potential members visit the space for a tour and to meet us. If they are interested in membership we collect their details in order to send them details.
  • Post membership paperwork out
    • The next step is to send out the membership paperwork. This can then be sent back signed by post or returned at the induction session
  • Induction session
    • Another chance for new members to meet us and for us to meet them. This session is intended to provide a structured introduction to the space. It will cover membership details, safety details and allow for questions - see below for more details.
  • Payment and membership checks
    • We need to ensure that members are who they say they are and process payment from them, these checks include:
      • Check payment has been received in bank
      • Program keyfob
      • Send keyfob to home address
      • Management representative complete's and signs the 'office only' section of the membership doc
    • The final step will be to program the key fob and send it out to the new members address.

Induction

  • Tour of the space
  • Rules & guidelines
  • General workshop safety
  • Fire exits
  • Location of First Aid kits
  • Membership agreement
  • Hand in paperwork if not posted in
  • Complete knowledge checklist - this should be questions, not just 'tick if you know'
